I welcome you to Gujarati Samaj of Sacramento (GSS). As your incoming Samaj President, I want to let you know how proud I am to lead the largest Indian regional association of Greater Sacramento region. So thank you for this opportunity! Some of you know me very well and for others, let me introduce myself. I am a native of Modasa, Gujarat and have been in United States for few years. I live in Rancho Cordova. I enjoy outdoor activities like camping, ice-skating, kayaking, hiking, volleyball, and cricket. Being a new dad and family-oriented keeps me busy.
I volunteered for presidency with the intention to serve the large, business-oriented and growing community of Gujaratis in the greater Sacramento area. I have been fortunate to have new members in my executive committee to revitalize the Samaj, its perception and its activities. The priorities for this year for Samaj would be: 1) to increase member awareness of all GSS has to offer, thereby bringing in more members and creating unity and 2) ensure we are offering as complete and relevant a calendar of programs and events possible throughout the year for adults and kids.
In terms of member awareness and creating unity, I intend to have joint events with various groups to reach out to community and represent the Samaj as active platform for learning about Gujarati culture and heritage. I plan on meeting other local community leaders to showcase our accomplishments and strengths as Gujaratis in America. With respect to programs and events, please check out our homepage and facebook page for upcoming events. Your presence will add to the joy of the activities.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Jaimin Upadhay, President, GSS.
